On board 1 John Crompton was a last-minute replacement for Poulton. Although there were a few tactics missed, it was still a relatively quick victory for Torrin as he continues his climb up the ratings.

On board 2 Andrei got the advantage out of a slightly unconventional opening and made white’s life difficult in developing his pieces. The game was in the balance though until David’s rook on the h file got trapped by the Andrei's queen and with no way of defending it, was forced to resign.

On board 3 it was a close game until I missed a tactic that meant Nigel went the exchange up. With a centralised bishop I probably should have still been able to hold a draw, but in time pressure a few inaccurate moves let black’s queen get to the back rank to which my king had no defence.

On board 4 Terrence was also an exchange up, and things were looking promising for him when his rook started to collect white’s pawns. In a similar story though to the second board, his rook managed to get trapped, this time by Richard’s king, and then it was a fairly easy conversion to the win from there.
