This was the first time for almost 2 years since LSA 1 have visited Preston for OTB chess. Preston have a very comfortable and suitable venue and the opportunity to meet and chat with old friends there made it a most enjoyable evening. It was over quickly on top board when Sam's phone went off when he was in a good position. Peter could have claimed the game under FIDE rules but very sportingly offered a draw which was accepted by Sam. The only decisive game came on bottom board when Dave, who had earlier lost a piece, fought back and mated Kenny after an oversight. Phil had an advantage in development and spatial control after the opening against Paul but Paul managed to establish equality and force a draw against his experienced opponent. This left me needing only a draw to win the match for Lytham. After a quiet opening my position improved as a result of some inaccuracies around moves 15 and 16 and I was in control of the position, if not actually winning, when Cliff accepted my offer of a draw 7 moves later.
