Honours even in the Preston local derby.

Martyn Hamer and Pete Jowett could not get the better of each other on board one, as a draw was agreed in an equal endgame of rooks and pawns.
Most of the drama was on board three where Clifford Rutlidge took advantage of Graham Ashcroft's misplaced knight, with Graham having to give up two pawns in order to save his piece. Although it looked likely that Cliff would go on to win, Graham regained one pawn and created other threats as Clifford's time was ebbing away. ventually they agreed a draw with chances fairly equal by that point.
On board four Geoff Pennington took advantage of some loose piece placement by Alan Pidcock and force the win of a piece and the game.
Phil Taylor was once again pitted against Malcolm Peacock on board two and for a good while at least had equality. Unfortunately he missed a tactic from Malcolm which immediately changed the nature of the game, forcing a retreat from Phil and also winning a vital central pawn. From then on it was the usual backs to the wall game with Malcolm building up the pressure to force a good win.
