Brian Hilton had covid and must have told Peter not to come meaning board 4 was empty. This left a 3 on 3 fight with interesting matchups of players at similar levels. Kieron gambited a pawn early, but Stefan refused to take it, playing more solidly. Kieron then continued to play poorly in the opening and was clearly not in a good head space. Facing a much worse position, Kieron resigned. Stefan finished the tournament with 5.5/6, well done to you! The last two games went deep, with both games refusing to exchange much off the board leading to some very congested looking games. Robert then managed to convert his position into a win with the black pieces, which was an excellent result against Paul, who unfortunately had a disappointing tournament in the end. You can gain those rating points back this season Paul! The final game between Steve and Thorsten centred around white's passed pawn in the centre which became a constant thorn for the black pieces. There was finally a large exchange of pieces, however black overlooked a zwischenzug over 2 hours into the match (an in between check before capturing back the queen) This meant white was up a rook and the rest of the game was a matter of conversion. A good win for Thorsten. This meant Bandits won the match 3-0 and claimed 2nd place in the tournament with a dominant performance.
