This was a 3-Board match agreed between the two team captains.
Despite the grading difference, this was a well-fought match that could have gone either way:
Malcolm appeared to be winning, but for the last part of the game had barely seconds left on the clock to make his moves. Sadly, when he forgot to press his clock after making a move he ran out of time.
Alan won the exchange, but his opponent found a perpetual check.
I don't know how many times Paul and I have played each other over the last 20 or so years, but every single game has been a draw, despite the pair of us really trying to make it otherwise-the games have never been dull! This was another such game, with the computer later indicating that each of us had a winning advantage at different stages of the game. Sadly at the time neither of us were good enough players to spot it, or know how to convert it!
Well done Bournemouth and thanks for a pleasant evening of competitive chess, played sportingly.
