Preston`s new player on Board 4 is Hayley Mars. Hayley faced a tough debut in league chess against the experienced Dave Clayton.
The match was won for Preston on Board`s 2 and 3. On Board 2 Harry Patsos who had just returned from a break in Greece produced a sparkling attack against Rob`s king. On 3 although material was equal for a while, the main positional difference was king security, Black`s being in a conventional castled formation while White`s was dangerously exposed. On 1 it was one of those games which never really got going and a draw was agreed after a mass trade of pieces although possibly in the final position White could have had winning endgame chances.
A good match played in an excellent spirit.
