Lytham showed they mean business by bringing a strong lineup.
Sicilians on 1 and 2 , 1 looked fairly even throughout , on 2 Constantin played a closed version and seemed to have promising queenside play but Phil responded with a devastating attack on the king.
On 3 Dave won a piece fairly early on so the match was won for Lytham but there was still drama to come on 4. Darren was a piece up but enterprising play from Becky won the piece back and with a preponderance of pawns in the rook endgame it looked like a win or at the very least a draw but with time running short the kind of oversight we all have nightmares about allowed a simple mate.
