The first game to finish was Phil Raynor versus Jakub Sosinski. We reached an interesting position in a Queen's Gambit Declined which I spoiled by blundering a rook. The second game to finish was Darren Pickering v David Filmer. In a bishop versus knight ending, David managed to create a passed pawn which was good enough to secure the win. The other two games were much closer: in a knight and pawn ending Dave Aspinall had an extra two pawns but Nigel had the better centralised pieces. Nigel certainly had some drawing chances but it was Dave who managed to create a passed pawn which was shepherded to the 7th by king and knight. On board 2 Peter seemed to have the better position in the middle game and eventually exchanged to a position where he had two bishops and pawns versus rook and pawns. This traded down to a bishop and two pawns versus the rook. One of Peter's pawns proved to be unstoppable enabling Lytham to level the match.
