This was a good win for Poulton who were clearly in form. On Board 1 Phil made a serious tactical error in the early middle game and this was exploited in a very precise manner by Oleg. On Board 2 there was a long, quality game where Dave had to try and score the full point for Lytham due to the match situation: Paul was able to turn the tables though and played the end game in a very energetic way. Andrei was the lone winner for Lytham: he won a piece at a fairly early stage and went on to cause further tactical problems for Juris eventually gaining a large material advantage. Colin seemed to be doing quite well in the early part of the game but Ken then won a pawn and, a little later, a piece. In the ensuing end game he found a nice mating attack without needing to queen his passed pawn.
